Shimano Vanford FA Spinning Reel
What our customers are saying:
"BEAUTIFUL REEL"
"Got this in the 2500, so lightweight and smooth even with a decent fish on, instant stop on the reel in and comfortable to use for a full day (or even week!) of casting." - Rach Hingley on Nov 07, 2021
The Vanford is one of Shimano’s most sensitive spinning reels. Perfect for a wide range of finesse fishing styles, the Vanford is part of the Magnumlite Series and pushes the boundaries of lightweight technology and engineering, delivering remarkable finesse that you can actually feel and will most certainly appreciate.
The inertia required to start the Vanford rotor moving is almost imperceptible. It’s hard to describe the sensation, but pick one up and you will immediately know what we mean. With sensitivity and lightness comes control, and with control comes better fishing and more success. It’s a win-win and when it comes to lightweight lure fishing set-ups, there is very little that can compete with the Vanford. Combine it with any high quality finesse lure rod and you will immediately enhance the balance, enabling you to fish better, for longer and increasing your enjoyment to higher levels than you thought possible.
The sensitivity of the Vanford is partly as a result of the second generation Magnumlite Rotor, which along with the body is engineered from Shimano’s exclusive Ci4+ composite material. This is also why the reel feels so light in the hand. Internally, HAGANE Gear, MicroModule II, X-SHIP, InfinityDrive, InfinityXross and Silent Drive work seamlessly together to deliver smoothness and a deceptive amount of power. The Vanford is also fitted with Shimano’s advanced Duracross drag, which provides exceptional, accurate control when playing hard fighting fish. For trouble-free line management Anti-Twist Fin controls the pressure on the line that goes through the line roller onto the spool and is especially benificial when fishing with very lightweight lures.
So what do all these letters and numbers mean? I hear you say...
Let's try explain things here:
- BFS = Bait (Baitcaster) Finesse System
- DC = Digitally Controlled (fool proof!) casting system
- C = Compact body, slightly smaller than the standard
- HG = High Gear, faster retrieve than the standard
- XG = Extra Gear... even faster than the HF version, these letters don't determine size
- S = Shallow spool, ideal for braid
- DH = Double Handle
- Ci4 = A lightweight material!
- MGL -Magnumlite, a reel with components, often spool made from a lighter metal than others, 30% lighter than Ci4!
- F or R = If the model name has F or R at the beginning, this is Front or Rear drag. The letter following the F determines the release age, so FK is newer than FJ. A little like the old car number plate system.
- 1, 2, 3000 etc = Determines the size which goes up with the number although the 2500 and 3000 are the same size, just the 3000 has a larger spool and sometimes different shaped handle... YES I know it is a bit confusing, but hopefully this helps a little in choosing the perfect reel for you.
